The Gambia

The first Yepafrica Learning Centre opened in 2015 in Brikama, Gambia.

Yepafrica has been fostering youth empowerment in Gambia since 2007. In Gambia, Yepafrica is a national youth organisation within the framework of the National Youth Council. The youth organisation operates from the local Youth Empowerment Learning Centre in Brikama, which is where the team trains young people. Examples of training courses are the Empowerment Essentials and Entrepreneurship, Business Plan and Talent Awareness, which all include creating awareness on irregular migration. In Gambia the team consist of three 'Yeppers' who are on the payroll and who are responsible for managing the Learning Centre.

Besides that we operate with 7 freelance trainers. Yepafrica in Gamba trains 300 youngsters per year. Around 85% are now employed or have started their own business. No young people who attended our training courses have taken Backway to Europe. In total, we have reached more than 25,000 people.
